YouTube Dark Mode now available on Android: How to turn on

The YouTube mobile app for Android finally gets a dark mode option, which iOS users have enjoyed for a while.

Exactly why Google allowed the iOS people to have this option is first a mystery, but it's at least here now. YouTube announced last March that a dark mode option came to both Android and iOS after it was first debuted on material design-updated version online.

As 9to5Mac notes, the feature has rolled out recently, with users who see the "dark theme" automatically used with a popup screen at the bottom of the screen that alerts users about the feature.

For those who want to switch to dark mode, experts say Black Backgrounds save more battery, especially on devices with AMOLED monitors ̵

1; switch to the Settings page, and then click the "General" section. There, just under "Remind me to take a break" feature, the new Dark theme is replaced.

Notice that the theme is more dark gray than pure black. Also, something that turns white becomes converted to the dark theme, including search pages, backgrounds, tabs, and even the minimized video player. Those who completely hate the special theme of the dark theme can unfortunately not choose a deeper shade of black. Hopefully, YouTube will introduce more options in the next update.

Channels will still display bars in a variety of different colors. Perhaps the biggest impact is on the video page, where the video player is now black before it is fully loaded. In this way, the first loading experience is now less devastating to see.

As writing, the feature still seems to roll out, but when many users stumble across the feature, it appears to be officially stable instead of just being a limited test.

In any case, it is not too significant a feature and may be turned off if preferred. However, it's nice to see some variations in the app, especially since it has not received a design update for a long time.

YouTube is available on both iOS and Android.
