Your favorite apps can also be run in a web browser

More apps than You may have realized that they are available online as well as on your phone, and sync with your handset to give you access to all the same data, files and calls through any web browser.

There are all sorts of ways this can be helpful. First, it means you have a lot more real estate to work with – the content extends beyond your desktop screen instead of being limited to the dimensions of a smartphone screen.

Access to keyboard and mouse is also important. This means that you can flow through incoming messages much faster than you can on your phone, so you never have to get behind a group chat again.

Opening these apps online also means you do not have to keep reaching for your phone every time a new alert appears: You can only manage what has happened from your desktop or laptop.

If you find the benefits appealing, these are some of the most well-known apps with little-known online versions (we do not cover the apps that are obviously available online and on mobile, such as Gmail and Twitter).

There is no need to bend over your phone to stream through WhatsApp messages and group chats, because you can also get them up in your browser – as long as you have your phone available to configure this. You get the benefit of more space to watch your chats, and access to a physical keyboard, so that typing is also faster.

Go to WhatsApp Web to get started and you will get a QR code. Open WhatsApp on your phone, then tap Settings, WhatsApp Web / Desktop and Connect a device (on iOS), or tap the three dots then WhatsApp Web and Connect a device (on Android) to retrieve the QR code scanner and get connected.

All your calls are synchronized, complete with contact photos and read receipts (if you have turned them on). Click the three dots and then Settings to configure the key options for the web app, including notification settings and the web app theme.

Instagram is also available online, and in this case you do not need access to your phone: you only need your username and password so you can log in. Go to Instagram online and enter your credentials to get started.
