Xbox is testing to remove the Live Gold requirement for games that are free to play

Fortnite for all

Some changes are coming down for Xbox Live users. Today, an update to Xbox Insiders Alpha will remove the Xbox Live Gold requirement for Party Chat, Looking 4 Groups and multiplayer in free games.

According to the release notes, these service changes are flown and tested before general availability, which means that they will eventually reach all Xbox users.

Microsoft had already announced that it would release the Xbox Live Gold requirement for free games in January, when it reversed the course of a price increase for the Gold service.

Xbox Live has also undergone a change, and Xbox Live was recently renamed the Xbox Network. “The update from ̵

6;Xbox Live’ to ‘Xbox Network’ is intended to separate the underlying service from Xbox Live Gold membership,” Microsoft told The Verge.

This is good news for people who want to get into someone Fortnite or War zone without the Gold requirement, and may be interesting if Halo Infinitefree multiplayer experience falls under the same provision.
