WhatsApp lets you now create encrypted voice and video calls with up to four people.

The new group viewer is currently rolling out to WhatsApp's iPhone and Android apps, the Facebook-owned company announced Tuesday.

"Group call is always encrypted from end to end and we have designed calling to work reliably around the world in different networking conditions," wrote WhatsApp in a blog post.

To try this feature, just start a one-to-one voice or video call as usual, and then tap the new "Add Participant" button in the upper right to add more people to the conversation.

WhatsApp first introduced one-on-one voice dialing in 201

5 and video calls the following year. The company said that users now spend more than 2 billion minutes on voice and video calls a day.

The launch comes after another Facebook company – Instagram – has just added one-on-one video chat to its own iOS and Android apps. Like WhatsApp, Instagram can video chat with up to four people at a time.

To start a Instagram video chat, just touch the airplane icon in the top right corner of your stream to open your direct inbox, open a message thread, and touch the new camera icon in the upper right. When you're ready to leave the chat, touch the red phone icon at the bottom.

Meanwhile, WhatsApp earlier this month began to limit how many people you can forward messages to after the function was abused to spread false rumors in India that led to mob violence. WhatsApp now deletes the message to 20 contacts at once. Previously, you could send a message to over 250 contacts at once.
