Raven Software has nerfed two of Call of Duty: Warzone’s most effective weapons in an attempt to shake up the battle’s royal meta.
In an update that was pushed live this afternoon, the developer annoys the super-popular AUG and FFAR 1.
First up, AUG ̵
The recoil strength is increased at AUG, which will hopefully calm it down a bit.
“Explosive weapons run a fine line between ineffective and oppressive,” Raven said. “The purpose of this change is to maintain the weapon’s identity as a powerhouse, while making it a little harder to use. Right now we feel it’s too easy to stay on target given how deadly it is. We will continue to monitor performance of Tactical Rifle Charlie and make further modifications if necessary. “
Now on to FFAR 1, an assault rifle that, like AUG, was introduced into the Warzone as part of the controversial integration of Treyarch’s Black Ops Cold War. FFAR has seen the speed of ADS (downward aiming) slow down, which will hopefully help it feel more like an assault rifle and less like an SMG.
“FFAR is a jack of all trades,” Treyarch said. “It has the damage profile and range of an AR, as well as the fire rate of an SMG. FFAR’s wholesale effect has it to remove SMG in areas we are not happy with. Ideally, FFAR fulfills the role of a mid range dominator while you switch weapons. which excels in short-range missions. We bring FFAR a little more in line with what you can expect from an AR injury and range at the expense of handling. “
In the meantime, attachments have seen some bug fixes. Here is the list:
- Rear grip accessories that displayed ADS speed profiles should now increase ADS speed significantly.
- Fixed a bug with Groza where the 16.5 “CMV Mil-Spec barrel would bypass damage.
- Fixed a bug with Ember Sighting Point where the XM4 and AK-47 had the ADS speed increased instead of decreased.
- Fixed a bug with Salvo Fast Mag where FFAR 1 and M16 had not reduced the ADS speed.
- The Pelington 703 Wrapped Suppressor effects should now be properly represented in the stat line.
And finally, the camo challenges for R1 Shadowhunter now look right for the Geometric, Flora and Science categories.
It’s good to see Raven go in here to tackle two of Warzone’s most popular weapons, and I hope the nerves go some way to adding variety to the meta. But these note notes are once again imprecise. We do not have accurate statistics for these changes – although the usual suspects in the Call of Duty community will have their say soon enough, I imagine.
