V-8 replaced E30 M3 Continue with a 911 GT3 RS on the track

The Porsche 911 GT3 RS is the standard track car. The odds are that you will see at least one for every event you go to, just because it does the job so well. Most people follow that route because it is easy, and because RS is so rewarding to drive on a closed circuit. But some people, like Phil Morrison from Driftworks in the UK, go a slightly different route. One that involves V-8 switches and fireballs.

Instead of just buying a track-ready Porsche or BMW for HPDE tasks, Morrison decided to build his own. He used an E30 M3 shell and replaced the 4.0-liter S65 V-8 and seven-speed dual-clutch from an E90 generation M3, creating a light Bavarian rocket on wheels. The classic formula of the large V-8 plus small chassis equivalent to mega performance is evident on the track.

During a recent event in Donington Park, Morrison comes across a 991

-generation 911 GT3 RS with a 520 horsepower flat-six and a fast-changing PDK and actually manages to keep up with it through the session, the two cars that pass everything other on the circuit.

There’s a lot of action as the two cars drive Donington at speed, with a seemingly endless stream of fireballs popping up from the M3’s exhaust pipes every shift. You will want the sound up for this one.
