2018 has been a great year for the technology industry.
Many things happened throughout the year, with the big CES 2018 kickoff in January, followed by the MWC in February, the big Facebook / Cambridge Analytica controversy and Microsoft's re-org in March, iTunes coming to the Microsoft Store and the release of Windows 10 April 2018 April update, Microsoft Build 2018 and Google I / O conferences in May, followed briefly by Apple's WWDC conference and E3 2018 in June, the launch of Apple's new MacBook Pro line in July, the release of Android Pie and a series of iPhone and Pixel leaks in August, a great month for Apple with the new iPhones and OS updates in September, a great month for tech with new Google hardware, Microsoft hardware, OnePlus 6T, and a big new Windows 10 update in October, the rebirth of MacBook Air and the new iPad Pro in November, and a series of Xbox leaks ending in December.
Yes, all that happened in the last 12 month ths.
2018 has been a great year for our site as well. Our coverage has been much broader than ever, capable of entering new areas we have never covered before. We broke exclusive news like never before, while publishing more than 2,250 stories over the past 12 months, with nearly 320 premium stories to our Thurrott Premium readers.
And despite all these great events throughout the year, there are some of the best Thurrottes. com stories of the year are much different than what you can expect. Let's take a look at the top 10 stories, based on pageviews:
This story was also one of the recently published stories to make it the top 10 list, published in December. The story describes how Apple's executives triggered a "burn" situation, especially in the marketing department, after the sale of the latest iPhones was not as good as the company expected.
This was one of the first exclusive stories we published this year, back in February. The story was quite a surprise to anyone, mainly due to all the shots around Windows 10 S, Microsoft turning it into a "mode" in Windows was a bit surprising to anyone.
This was the first time we revealed the timeline of Microsoft's next major Xbox flagship, Scarlett, back in June. It comes out in 2020, and the Xbox community was already very, very excited.
Apple has faced many hardware quality claims throughout the year ever since its redesigned MacBook Pro. The company confirmed some of the issues on the 2017 iPhone X and the MacBook Pro, and the controversy surrounding all Apple product quality issues that probably helped this story is shooting up the charts.
This was the latest published story on our site to make it to the top 10 list – it was published the same day as the Apple Fire Dill story (# 10). Paul essentially wrote up a story telling readers about the fact that Microsoft made the official ISOs for Windows 7 and Windows 8.1 available again, and SEO did the rest.
Again, the Xbox. This story was released in July just after Microsoft's major E3 keynote, detailing Microsoft's Scarlett game drive service for the next Xbox console.
This was probably the most interesting story to make it the top 10 list, published in April. The headline here probably did the trick, as there have been lots of hype around Microsoft that embrace Linux in the past year or so. The story speaks specifically about Microsoft's new Azure Sphere OS for Linux based IoT devices, which will help IoT makers easily integrate Azure services into their small gadgets or computers.
In April, Brad discussed some of Microsoft's plans for the future Xbox. Reports suggested that the company work on a game drive service, and we had a rough idea of the timeline of Microsoft's next gen Xbox devices back in April. That's all before we revealed much more of Microsoft's plans later this year. Of course.
This was an interesting story, published in mid-February, which set the limitations of Microsoft's Windows 10 on the ARM platform for the first time ever. Windows 10 at ARM has come a long way since then, when it comes to hardware and a bit of software page, but the platform itself was a big talk point earlier this year after the big Qualcomm Always Connected PC announcements in late 2017. Xbox was a great highlight for the site when it comes to scoops this year, with Brad publishing a series of scoops on next-generation Xbox consoles. Microsoft builds a disk-less Xbox was one of the biggest stories, taking the first place for this year's 10 most famous stories, despite being published only in mid-November. A diskless Xbox One is a big deal for many reasons, and it's no surprise to see that the Xbox community is so hyped about the new Xbox console coming out before the big Scarlett release in 2020.
There you have That – these were the top 10 stories we published in the last 12 months. 2019 will only have bigger stories, starting with CES 2019.
