The new Steam Chat is here, and it's pretty good, although it will not interfere with PC players from Discord. But there's one aspect that's not so hot: Every time you open Steam, your friends list and the new chat will automatically open in another window. Arg . The option menu does not provide any obvious tools to stop it, but fortunately you can stop the new Steam Chat from opening when you start Steam in some different ways.
The first method is simple. By default, Steam must remember the Chat status when you start the program. So if you do not want Steam Chat to start when you open steam, close your buddy list before closing down the steam. Easy-peasy. This method has seemed like a charm to me, but Steam community posts suggest that it's not always reliable for everyone. If Chat still pops up when you open Steam, you can move on to a more drastic action: Changing the drive's shortcut target.
