Ahead of the June Drop feature, the code in the Pixel Tips app indicates that Google Camera’s astrophotography will potentially be upgraded to offer time-lapse video.
About APK Insight: In this “APK Insight” post, we have decompiled the latest version of an application that Google uploaded to the Play Store. When we decompile these files (called APKs, in the case of Android apps), we can see different lines of code that suggest possible future features. Keep in mind that Google may or may not post these features, and our interpretation of what they are may be imperfect. We will try to activate those that are closer to completion, but to show you what they will look like in case they send. With that in mind, read on.
Astrophotography time course
On Tuesday afternoon, Google began releasing an update to the Pixel Tips app ̵
The key here, of course, is “Astrotimelapse”, which suggests the combination of taking an hour lapse video with Pixel’s excellent astrophotography features. If our assumptions are correct, this could potentially allow you to record the movement of the stars in the night sky.
Unfortunately, the only other detail we could detect is that before viewing “Astrotimelapse” information, the Pixel Tips app will check if you are using version 8.2.3 of the Google Camera app. As of today, the latest version of Google Camera is 8.2.2, indicating that an update may be coming in the near future, although there is no guarantee that it is related to the June Feature Drop.
Google Photos locked folder
Earlier this month, during Google I / O, the company announced that Google Photos would get a new “Locked Folder” feature – exclusive to Pixels, first – that lets you keep certain photos hidden from your phone’s gallery. In the same Pixel Tips update, we found signs of a “tip” about the locked Google Photos folder.
Although far from confirmation, this suggests to us that the locked folder will come in the near future, potentially as part of Monday’s June Pixel Feature Drop.
Thanks to JEB Decompiler, who some APK Insight tears benefit from.
