- Vivo has been officially shown by the Vivo Nex 2 display smartphone.
- The phone has a large primary display and a smaller screen on the back. Vivo phone also offers a triple-camera setup on the backside.
We came across allegedly leaked pictures of Vivo Nex 2 a few days ago and showed us a phone with a weird dual-screen design. We did not have to wait a long time for an official confirmation, but as Vivo has released an official picture of the device in all its glory.
The Chinese brand made a picture of the dual-screen smartphone of Weibo and its website, and showed a virtually no main screen. But look at the back and you'll find a smaller screen surrounded by thick facades.
On the back of the Vivo Nex 2 there is a triple camera layout on the top edge (along with a strange camera punch). We do not see any cameras on the front of the device, so you'll probably need the triple camera trio and the second self-screen. Hopefully, the company goes for normal / wide / tele setup, seen on the LG V40 and Huawei Mate 20 series.
We do not know much about this new device, but battery life is definitely a concern when we see dual-screen smartphones. Hopefully, Vivo provides great power-saving features for the second screen, or the phone packs a large battery.
This is not the first dual-screen smartphone of its kind we've seen this year when Nubia X was launched last month. The Nubia has a second display that camouflages in the back of the phone, which gives a pretty striking effect. We go back even further, we've seen the YotaPhone and Hisense A2 series, offering e-ink displays on the back for reading and other tasks.
It seems that the current trend of dual-screen smartphones is yet another alternative to splitting shades. We have also seen sliding phones this year, delivering shameless monitors while concealing earpieces, sensors and cameras on the sliding mechanism. How long before we get phones with self-cameras below the display?
We do not know when Vivo Nex 2 will be released, but hopefully it will be released outside of China. Do you want to buy a dual-screen smartphone?
