Pichu destroys us both!
Super Smash Bros. Ultimate is huge. Not only in terms of hype and importance and sales potential, but only when it comes to clean things. The Nintendo Switch Mask Fighter has over a hundred stages, almost a thousand songs, and too many Pokemon and items and help profiles to think of crammed on a cartridge you can plan on the go or on a TV. When you have so many big franchises like Nintendo, if you put them all in one game, it will make the game a very big boy.
But the biggest, most exciting thing about Super Smash Bros. Ultimate is its brainwashing roster of playable characters. Fighting is not just based on the strength of their mechanics, but the strength of their warriors, especially in a crossover fighters like this. And Super Smash Bros. Ultimate breaks all rivals by including every single playable character from the four previous games of the twenty-year series. Include the new campaigns, and so far we have over 70 fighters to pack our heads around. We are happy, but we are also scared. So to get ready for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate we create character for character each day, giving you the ultimate guide to all its characters. Today's fighter: Pichu.
Who are they?
With Pokemon so popular, it really makes you wonder that out of the nearly thousand current pocket monsters a couple of them are basically "Pikachu With A Twist". Introduced in Pokemon Gold and Silver second generation game, Pichu is a younger, weaker, shorter pre-evolution of Pikachu. The cheeks are pink instead of red. The tail is less naily.
Another of the dubious secret clones, Pichu, originated first in Super Smash Bros. Melee representing the new Johto region ] pokemon . But while Pikachu was pretty good at that game, Pichu was far worse. This was intentional, reflecting the canonical gap in force between the two electric mice. Pichu disappeared from the series, and everyone was cool with it.
What looks like new in Ultimate?
Pichu's whole gimmick is that it's a baby Pikachu. It's smaller, which makes it tougher to hit, but easier, which makes it easier to crush. Even more important is that Pichu lightning strikes, while it is possibly stronger than Pikachu, in some cases also hurts Pichu himself. So to use your best attacks, you must almost hurt yourself, quite a lot of your attacks with range and killing power. Pichu may have some better statistics in Smash Ultimate but this sad basic property is unchanged.
Everyone thinks that Pichu was meant to be a white character in Melee and that's fine if that's the case. Pichu is like Dan from Street Fighter but cute instead of annoying. But if everyone is to be viable in Ultimate we really say to make Pichu a glass cannon. If the lightning hurts, make sure the other player does a lot more! We also like the theory that present Smash Pikachu is developed from Melee Pichu because of the outfits it carries. So a confirmation that modern Donkey Kong is Donkey Kong Jr. style would be great.
Super Smash Bros. Ultimate Releases December 7th for Nintendo Switch. Until we can play more for ourselves, changes we are talking about here are the most speculations. For more thoughts, see our Smash hands-on and cool Change game to play that is not Smash Bros ., Because they definitely exist.
