It’s over 9 years since Capcom released Street Fighter X Tekken, a collaboration between Capcom and Bandai Namco. This game set Tekken characters up against those from the Street Fighter universe in a 2D plane.
Although a sequel, Tekken X Street Fighter, was planned to be monitored by Bandai Namco, the surprisingly poor performance of Street Fighter X Tekken has apparently hidden that game so far. However, the latest Harada̵
In response to a question about Street Fighter X Tekken, Katsuhiro Harada and Kouhei Ikeda (Tekken 7 Director) revealed some interesting details about development.
“We worked really hard at it. We really were,” said Bandai Namco developers. “Wish we could show you the models and stuff. We had really good models. I really wanted to show them Chun-Li. I wanted to show you all the characters.”
Even if you can not understand Japanese, you can really hear the disappointment in Harada’s voice about not being able to show what was done with the Tekken X Street Fighter. However, even just showing these models will require Capcom’s permission.
“But Street Fighter belongs to Capcom, so we can not do it alone.”
Of course, it was suggested that we have already seen Akuma’s model from Tekken X Street Fighter. Without saying it directly, it is suggested that Akuma’s model in Tekken 7 is actually what Akuma looked like in Tekken X Street Fighter.
“You can see Akuma’s model,” said the developers. “It’s pretty cool.”
“Yes, development stopped, but we got about 30% done,” the developers continued on the topic of Tekken X Street Fighter. “We even had movements, which you can see reflected in Akuma. The development experience was useful. We wanted to show it, but the project died.”
The developers talk about a number of other topics, including the Tekken character payout percentage in the Tekken 7 web rankings. The discussion about Tekken X Street Fighter starts specifically at 17:15.
