- Google has released a new "Sounds" app for Google Pixels.
- The app is a Google Play version of the audio menu found in the Pixel settings, which comes with a redesign.
- App landed on Pixels with December security updates, although redesigned does not seem to be alive yet.
Google has released a new and exclusive app for Pixel smartphones called "Sounds." The app, which is an updated version of the audio menu in Pixel settings, allows users to select preferred sounds for alarms, ringtones and alerts.
9to5Google says the new app was rolled out to the pixels along with December security updates, and it has also recently appeared in the Play Store. Since then, the Play Store page is now idle so Google has apparently drawn it.
The reason for this is probably the design. Some Reddit people reported that the app was installed on the device, but without a design update seen in the Play Store (image above). Probably, the app will continue to live in the Play Store again when the new interface also rolls out to Pixels – probably in the coming days via a server-enabled activation.
When it eventually goes live, you can also look forward to New Color Patterns that come with each sound, giving you a visualization of the mood the sound is trying to induce. However, it is unclear whether these visualizations are used outside of the app or just when previewing sounds.
