Whether you’re reading this article on a shiny new S21, or you’m still waiting for your device to show up at your doorstep, chances are you need a case to protect your investment. Fortunately, there are many great options available, as long as you know where to look. These are the top five favorite cases for the Galaxy S21
Best personal case: dbrand Grip (Featured)
dbrand’s Grip continues to be an AP favorite for the many ways you can get your phone to say “this is my phone” without, for example, an unfortunate meltdown. We have the iconic (literally) limited edition Icons skin on our purple Galaxy S21 here, and it’s a subtle stunning in matte black. But dbrand has many options to suit your individual taste, and you can even order the abundant protective grip bag solo, if you choose. We just say: This case looks best with a skin, and it’s kind of dbrand’s thing.
Best rugged but not disgusting big deal: Otterbox Symmetry
If you care about ruggedness (and if you’re protecting a $ 1200 phone, we’ll not blame you), Otterbox is one of the first names in the industry to think first. While their super aggressive and boxy cases are not for everyone, Otterbox makes a line that is definitely slimmed down from their traditional offering: Symmetry. I’ve generally been a fan of this case for a while now, and it looks especially good in this color of blue-green on the S21 Ultra. It feels super robust without feeling thick, and the buttons have a surprisingly good feel for such a solid case.
Best eco-friendly case: Incipio Organicore
We like the idea of a good environmentally friendly case, but they are not always the best to use. Incipio’s Organicore has two things that make me think most “green” things do not: it is underestimated and it fits very well. The compostable materials from which organic products are made feel quite solid, and the cover wraps reassuringly well around the Galaxy S21 Ultra assessment unit. I wish there were a few more color choices, but this black case is going to please most people. It also matches the black on the S21 Ultra nicely.
Best premium bag on a budget: Cyrill Color Brick
Cyrill is one of the sub-brands of Spigen, and it is a brand we like. But Cyrill tends to market more “feminine” styles for his cases, which I think unfairly has left them ignored by most of the world. There is nothing feminine about this dark gray Color Brick for the S21 Ultra, for one. For another, it looks very, very nice, and I do love the contrasting yellow power and volume keys included in the box as a little extra (you replace them yourself).
Best leather case: Official Samsung leather cover
I’ve used Samsung’s official saddle brown leather case on the S21 Ultra, and I’m really digging it. Not only is the fit impeccable, the leather is worn and gets proper patina. It’s a nice shade of brown Samsung’s chose, and the large camera module cover was at first a little over the top in front of my eyes, but it has actually grown a lot on me. It’s not cheap, to be sure, but it’s not what I would call too loud either: it’s just a really nice leather bag.
Which one belongs on your phone?
If customization is what you’re looking for, it’s hard to beat the dbrand’s abundance of Grip Case leather (although the S21 Ultra version is currently backordered). There is also something to be said for premium simplicity, in which case Cyrill’s mysterious dark Color Brick alternative will certainly impress. However, if we are honest, only our favorite cases came out of the mountain we tested on this list, so you really can not go wrong with any of these.
