Clubhouse’s social audio app lets all users pay other creators from Monday. It is the first revenue generation tool built right into the app. The clubhouse says that it will not take any cuts in payments, which means that the creators get everything that someone sends them. Not everyone will be able to do that receive payments yet, though; which will roll out in waves, “starts with a small test group,” says the clubhouse.
To pay a club owner who can receive payments, tap their profile, then tap the “Send Money” button, then select how much you want to send them. You also have to pay a “small card processing fee”
The news of direct payments comes a few weeks after Clubhouse announced its first creative accelerator program, Clubhouse Creator First, which takes on 20 ambitious hosts and creators to help them build their audiences and monetize their shows.
The accelerator and the new direct payments can give creators more incentive to stay at Clubhouse instead of jumping to one of the many other social media platforms that have copied Clubhouse’s social audio format. Right now, Clubhouse is only available on iOS as an invitation-only app, although an Android version is in the works.
