Another rumor points to the impending arrival of the next iPad Pro this month, so it may be just a few days away. Since there is agreement that this means a completely new display technology and Apple̵
But, as TS Eliot wrote, “April is the cruelest month,” and if you’re on the iPad mini’s design team, you may feel it’s appropriate, because the same tipster claims the next iPad mini won’t be launched this month everything. For the record, Eliot’s The Waste Land talks about more profound things, but it’s the best reference to April in any poem’s opening line since Chaucer, so I wanted to quote it.
Anyway, where were we?
Ah yes, the tip comes from someone who calls himself Uncle Pan, who on Weibo said that he had dreamed of the products Apple will reveal at its “April conference” – not that such an event has been confirmed – and that he believes that the next iPad Pro will be revealed as planned. He also said that “iPad mini in full screen is out of play” and that AirPods will also be updated. More about the latest bit from Gordon Kelly here on Forbes.
Note that it is not completely said that there will be no iPad mini this month, rather that if it is, it will have a design similar to the current model instead of the rumored update to one with a larger screen that elides at home button in favor of either Face ID or Touch ID in the on / off button, like the latest iPad Air.
Still, I guess since the upgraded iPad mini has been rumored for some time that Apple will not update its smallest tablet until it is ready to drop the brand new model.
In that case, it sounds like the iPad Pro will be the focus of this month’s unveiling. I also rule out the possibility of an update to the beginner iPad, as Apple’s latest iPad, the eighth generation model, is only six months old.
So it looks like we can expect a lightning-fast processor, called the A14X, that will be a fine-tuned version of the A14 found in the latest iPhones and iPad Air. It is rumored that this will be as fast as the M1 chip on the latest MacBook Pro and MacBook Air, which will be quite amazing.
The screen is likely to have a dazzling appearance, upgraded from LED LCD to miniLED on the larger 12.9-inch model, but sticks to the regular screen on the 11-inch model.
As for when we should expect this, there has been a lot of confusion about this. The rumors of a March 23 event were completely gone – but as readers of my weekly AppleUnboxed newsletter know, I figured out the idea weeks ago.
So if you’re pushing me for a date, I guess it’s Tuesday April 13th or Wednesday April 14th when the iPad Pro (and AirPods and some accessories) will be unveiled. The latest may be the following week, but I do not think so.
Not for long, then.
