Super Smash Bros. Ultimate has more than 800 songs. If there is one standout slot, it is undoubtedly the "Lifelight" main theme of the latest entry. In November, we found out that the English version of the track was performed by songs and voice actor, Abby Trott. Previously, she has been in the credit for Spider-Man Halo Wars 2 NieR Automata and Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney – Spirit of Justice to name a few.
In a recent interview with the French website Puissance Nintendo, Trott revealed how it was to discover that she would be the voice behind the iconic track, and how all this came in the first place. In the usual way she auditioned for an unknown part. When she found out she would meet in the new Smash Bros., she was obviously thrilled as a "lifelong" Nintendo fan:
"I was fortunate enough to have the opportunity to audition through the Cup of Tea Productions, and on I had no idea what the audition was for. Initially I sent my song demo. The other round involved singing a requested song (not "Lifelight"). I ended up being thrown and CRIED when I found out what the project was was was like a lifelong fan of Nintendo, which is part of Smash Bros. Ultimate is very special to me. I love "Lifelight" so much. "
Before recording the English version of Lifelight, had everything Abby heard was the instrumental version of the new song in Ultimate. It was her job to develop a unique interpretation. All in all, she spent one day in the studio and prepared an approach and then the recording:
"I think we picked up at the same time, so I had just heard the instrumental track. I was lucky enough to have the incredible Greg Chun as my musical director, and with input from Nintendo about the mood and feel of the song, we developed our interpretation. "
The talented singer has been overwhelmed by the love she received from the fans of the game and said it was a humble experience:
"I have been completely overwhelmed by the love received by fans for" Lifelight. "Reading all the comments and messages and listening to all the different covers has been amazing and humble. As an artist and as a Nintendo fan myself, I was so nervous when the song was released ̵1; I just hoped fans would love it as much as I do. "
When she asked if she would ever perform the song live on stage, then what she did had to say:
" Unknown! We'll see. "
