Take a look at this neat visualization of Nintendo’s console sales

Nintendo has had many ups and downs as a company, from the beginning of the 20th century in the console market to the 2017 release, the Nintendo Switch (which some of you may have heard of). It does not seem so long ago that we wrote sad news on the Wii U, or reminisced about the 3DS now that Nintendo has stopped producing the little guys.

Now we can see the last 31 years of Nintendo’s console sales in one big picture, thanks to Visual Capitalist (click here for the full resolution picture). It may not include the sale of the eye-popping Virtual Boy, but it does cover a significant number of Nintendo’s plastic pleasures, from the Game Boy to the present day.

2009 was a cracking year for Ninty, with both DS and Wii having record high sales, and it seems that Switch can one day reach the height. With 1

54 million sales of the DS in its ten-year lifespan, and 101 million sales of the Wii, the Switch has a long way to go, but almost four years into existence, it has already sold over 68 million units, with an expected 45 million more only in 2020 (thank you, Animal transition!).

Which year was your favorite as far as Nintendo consoles go? We are partly part of a little GameCube itself. Discuss your favorite vintages in the comments below!
