Subaru Forester STI must be built »AutoGuide.com News

Let's be honest, performance overruns are kind of lame.

Without a clear focus on performance or off-roading, they usually come in a difficult middle ground – never feel sporty, but don't feel too skilled either. But this Subaru Forester STI concept, which was put together for the upcoming Tokyo Auto Salon in January, can be a performance transition that we can actually get behind.

As you can see, the Subaru Forester STI Concept has some typical STI attachments such as 19-inch alloy wheels, glue green brake calipers, large slot rotors, glue green body pockets, and front, side and backlash extensions. Subaru does not mention power upgrades, but it says the concept has a 2.0-liter four-four-e-box engine. The gentle hybrid drive is good for 1

57 hp and 187 lb-ft of torque in the Japanese market Forester, so this concept is more an accessory package than a full-fledged performance model.

But while the Forester STI Concept is just an appearance package, it can preview a pretty cool product from Subaru. The spirit of the WRX STI, with rally racing roots and all-weather ability, would be transferred to a Forester body pretty nicely, we believe. Security pad Subaru will probably never do a 300+ hp Forester STI for North America, but we can dream. And with crossover sales skyrocketing, there are more advanced ideas than a US spec Forester STI.

For now, North American STI fans can look forward to the debut of the high-performing WRX STI S209, which will appear at the 2019 North American International Auto Show in Detroit when the show starts January 14. This Japanese market Forester STI Concept will appear at the Tokyo Auto Salon just before, with the doors of the show set to open on January 11.
