Cloud Empire Games (CIG) has had quite the lucrative year, with Star Citizen breaking the $ 200 million milestone and launching its first planet, Hurston. At the turn of the year, CEO Chris Roberts revealed that CIG had secured an additional $ 46 million investment, as well as launched its Squadron 42 road map, aimed at beating Beta in the latter half of 2020.
Roberts is proud to have beaten a staggering $ 211 million-and-count only through oral, bypass the traditional marketing found in other triple-A video games. Despite this success, CIG is concerned that the stand-alone single player experience will be buried against competition with more advertising revenue.
In an effort to circumvent this, CIG has received private investment from the founder of Independent Music Company Zomba, Clive Calder and Snoot Entertainment's Keith Calder. Between them, $ 46 million has bought about 1
As the company spends more on marketing, CIG has stated that it will further seek to be more transparent about the economy. While the developer has published UK finances annually, it will make its global revenue distribution known through the company's website, right next to the public counter that shows the total money.
"This investment helps secure our independence. We cannot have the resources that an Activision or EA needs to launch one of their tent games, but we now control our own destiny in the marketing Squadron 42, especially as we have a secret weapons: all of you! "Roberts wrote. "Between the power of the best community in games to help get the message out and these extra funds, we will be well positioned to enable Squadron 42 to enjoy the success it deserves."
Squadron 42's roadmap will have "the same reservations" as Star Citizen, but the primary goal is to have functions and content largely completed by the end of next year. This will allow an alpha test during the first 6 months of 2020 for balance, optimization and Polish, followed by a Beta in the latter half.
KitGuru says: I stand with many in it when I see the camp & # 39; but I have the best of wishes for the game. The scope goes far beyond that for other triple A games, so it would be nice to see CIG setting a new precedent. Looking forward to Squadron 42?
