Square Enix has banned more than 5,000 players for what they consider “illegal activities” in Final Fantasy 14.
After allegedly “confirming the existence of players engaging in these illegal activities”, Square Enix has now closed 5037 accounts for participation in real money trading and prohibited activities, and another 814 for advertising for real money trading.
The bans took place between February 25 and March 3, 2021.
“Players who discover confirmed cheats should under no circumstances exploit or disseminate such information,” the statement said (thank you, PCGN). “Instead, we ask players to submit a report using the in-game command [System Menu] -> [Support Desk] -> [Contact Us] -> [Report Cheating].
“In addition, any witness to RMT advertising can be reported by right-clicking on the character name in the chat log and selecting the menu [Report] -> [Report RMT Activity]. The report will be processed automatically, and if it is determined to fall under RMT advertising, the reported grade’s comments will be limited. “
Square promises that it will “continue to take strict disciplinary action against all accounts with confirmed involvement in RMT / illegal activity” and advised players to “steer clear of any activity” they believe violates the terms.
Square Enix recently announced Endwalker, the next expansion for MMO Final Fantasy 14. It is expected in the fall of 2021 for PC, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4 and Mac.
