Specialized has today added a completely new variant of its top gravel, cycling cross and cross-country mountain bike shoes, which integrates a lace version of the popular S-Works Recon.
These new S-Works Recon shoes are available in four colors, including a very festive Aloha alternative, and are aimed at gravel riders who are engaged in gram counters.
The core structure of the shoes remains unchanged from the existing S-Works Recon shoes, which means the same mixed upper construction with Dyneema, Body Geometry technologies as integrated longitudinal arch support and built-in 1.5 mm Varus wedge and the same carbon fiber sole.
Nobody likes to say it, but the motorcycle crew with power transmission calls true on gravel and with the same carbon fiber sole, S-Works Recon lace has a stiffness index of 1
Ergonomics and comfort
Ergonomics is a highly regarded factor in the specialized shoe range, and as part of this, these laces S-Works Recons have a + 1.5 mm forefoot Varus wedge to prevent pronation. This is supported by a ‘metatarsal button’, which provides more natural toe spread, which specialized requirements will help comfort.
For the short walks from the bike, to look at it, or when you take a ride on a bike on gravel, S-Works Recon lace-up shoes have a ‘SlipNot’ rubber heel and toe part. Borrowed from the brand’s experience with mountain bike shoes, designed to make these gravel kicks much safer to walk in.
Another mountain bike impact is the S-Works Recons reinforced toe box, which is included to protect against accidental off-road strikes when navigating technical terrain.
Specialized is marketing the new S-Works Recon lacing in four colors, three of which – Oak Green, Black and Aloha – are immediately available, while the White option will be available from the end of September.
The S-Works Recon lacing can use a traditional fastening mechanism, but there is nothing old-school about its weight rating, which is claimed to be only 280g.
