SEATTLE – Get ready for the biggest fireworks in 25 years of history celebrating New Year's needle, plus a brand new light show!
Crews have been busy installing thousands of light fixtures and fireworks. The Space Needle has also been enlightened in magenta for its presentation sponsor T-Mobile.
New for this year, festivities will include a 30-minute musical choreographed lighting show that begins at 1
Space Needle shared a video of a dressing sample that previews the new light show.
Cutting edge lighting equipment will provide brilliant colors and beams of light over the tower and the Seattle night sky.
But event planners say it's not all – There will also be more fireworks than ever before. Pyrotechnic show countdown begins at 23:59
"Big difference this year. First, it's our biggest year – probably 20 percent more fireworks than ever," says Ian Gilfillan, executive vice president of the show. "But most interesting and probably the most effective will be the addition of a light show in addition to the pyro show. "
Clear but cold forecast
More good news! Q13 News Meteorologist MJ McDermott says we want to enjoy a dry New Year's Eve, including at midnight when fireworks will be launched from the Space Needle.
A high-pressure bowl will keep us dry through New Year's Day (Tuesday)  Then a couple of systems will bring the first rain from 2019 Wednesday to Friday. Our weekend remains showery.
