Sony’s PS3, PSP and Vita digital stores are reportedly closing for good this summer • Eurogamer.net

Games can no longer be purchased from a device.

Sony is reportedly ready to permanently close PlayStation 3, PlayStation Portable and PlayStation Vita digital stores from July.

As reported by TheGamer, citing a confirmed source familiar with the situation, July 2 will see Sony close the PSP and PS3 stores permanently, while the Vita store closes on August 27.

At the moment, the PSP store will have been active for over 1

6 years, with the PlayStation 3 and Vita stores being 15 and ten years old, respectively.

Today’s report is not a completely unexpected development, of course, given that PlayStation 3, PSP and Vita games disappeared from desktop and mobile versions of PlayStation Store in October after a redesign. However, Sony’s latest changes mean that it is no longer possible to purchase digital copies of games or DLC for PlayStation 3, PSP and Vita directly from a device’s store app either.

There are no indications on how the move could affect games purchased before the store closes yet – presumably players will still be able to download their purchases as needed – but more should be revealed in Sony’s official announcement, which will be made in late March. .

We have contacted Sony to see if it has any comments on the report before then, and I will update the story if a response is received.
