Sonys last fortnite cross-play excuse is a stupid one

For a few months now, Fortnite players on the PS4 have been locked out of their epic accounts on other consoles. While these players can still use their epic accounts to play Fortnite on PC and Mobile, they can not use the Nintendo Switch on Xbox One. This limitation has been a big point of frustration for Fortnite fans who own more than one console, and so far, Sony has not given us much hope that the problem will be solved in a way that distributes the players.

In fact, Sony's last statement on the matter is certainly the silliest one it's made yet. As reported by the Independent, Sony CEO Kenichiro Yoshida said on the subject of cross-play in a call at IFA 2018, which indicates that the reason for Fortnite is not cross-play compatible is quite simply because other consoles offer a part-pair experience compared to PlayStation 4.

"On cross-platform, our thinking is always that PlayStation is the best place to play," Yoshida said. " Fortnite I think, in collaboration with PlayStation 4, is the best experience for users, it's our belief."

"But in fact," continued Yoshida, "we already opened some games as a cross platform with PC and some others, so we decide based on what is the best user experience. It's our way of thinking across the platform. "

If you think Yoshida's reasoning does not make much sense, you're definitely not alone. It is unclear what, exactly, Yoshida thinks the threat presented by cross-play is actually. Although he believes that PlayStation 4 gives the best Fortnite experience, how does cross-play change? At least it's ridiculous to say that Sony's cross-play restrictions were put in place with the "best user experience" in mind.

At least, it's definitely a slight excuse for locking Fortnite is counting on a platform and there is another non-response that is clearly meant to stop the problem. Sony's strategy seems to be waiting for the revolt over locked Fortnite accounts to die down without presenting a real solution and that's a shame. Hopefully, the company changes its melody soon, but this last sentence does not give much confidence.
