Who has the highest numbers?
With the launch of My PS4 Life from Sony, people have been converted engineers and percentages to calculate the total number of players for each PS4 game.
Reddit user Gamstat showed the simple math involved to get the estimates and difficulty finding an exact number.
Gambert pointed out that My PS4 Life videos ̵
This number, combined with the percentage of people who won the trophy (shown on the PlayStation website), can assess how much people play the current game.
In one example, Gamstat Fallout 76's "Photo Bomber" trophy used to break down the math.
33,764 players earned the trophy and on the PlayStation website show that 8.3% of all players were awarded the trophy. Therefore, to get the total number of players on Fallout 76, you take 33,764 divided by 0.083 and that corresponds to 406,795.
The user said that the same "trick" can be done with almost all PS4 games, but it can not be too rare of a trophy or the total number will not be nearly accurate.
Gamsted has posted nearly 100 game estimates so far on a website, and stated that the actual estimation dates are most likely somewhere between December 20th, December 4th, 2018, which makes the estimated estimated number of both older games and newer titles.
The following shows total global estimates of a handful of PS4 games:
- Grand Theft Auto 5 – 51.7 million
- FIFA 18 – 32.5 Million
- Call of Duty: World War II – 24.6 Million
- Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 – 9.23 million
- Call of Duty: Ghosts – 12.6 Million
- Battlefield 4 – 13.9 Million
- Minecraft – 25.6 Million
- The Last of Us: Remastered – 15.9 Million
- Overwatch – 10.2 Million
- Red Dead Redemption 2 – 6.1 Million
- Resident Evil 7 – 5.97 Million
- No Man's Sky – 3.95 million
There are specific issues to keep in mind with some of the estimates that can lead to inaccuracies.
Such as some of the numbers are only regional and not global; if a player started a game on his profile, but did not go far further with the game; Copies of games can be shared and therefore multiple trophies can be linked to the same copy; privacy settings in trophy settings in a game itself; Limited editions of games with different sets of trophies available; and the very limited timeframe for the aggregate figures.
