For all functionality that does not involve a game, Sony, along with Performance Designed Products, developed a new remote control that also detects and controls the TV's input, volume and power. It is available on September 18th and costs $ 29.99.
PS4 and PS4 Pro are primarily game consoles intended to play games with the DualShock 4 controller. But the Sony console doubles like a big media stream and Blu-ray player, and it's reasonable to say that the standard controller is not good at managing such tasks so we get a new remote control.
It is called PS4 Cloud Remote and it has been developed in partnership with Performance Design Products (PDP). PDP is already known in gaming peripherals, offering everything from headphones, chargers and game controllers, to carrying cases, screen savers, and even gaming media collections.
Cloud Remote connects to a PS4 using Bluetooth and uses the PDP Cloud Remote App to automatically detect other devices connected to PS4 . By default, your remote control finds your TV and allows you to control volume, input and power mode without picking up another remote control.
As designed for PS4, it contains all the buttons you expect to interact with the interface, as well as making it easier than the pad to control media playback. Nor does it cost a fortune, with PDP offering pre-orders the price to $ 29.99.
As an added bonus, you get a 30-day free trial on the PlayStation Vue Core plan, which usually costs $ 49.99. Vue Core gives you access to live TV broadcasts spread over 40+ channels, but also access to sports broadcasts on the NFL network, NBA TV, MLB network and other regional sports networks, depending on where you are.
PS4 Cloud Remote is expected to ship on September 18th, with Amazon and GameStop both planning to save it if you do not want to buy directly from PDP.
