Smash Bros. Ultimate Player's Epic Fail costs him Tourney Match – Game Rant

Although many professional players are able to maintain laser focus through their struggles, some may distract from time to time. Usually, when that happens, the player has the potential to recover and avoid defeat, but for others, such as this Super Smash Bros Ultimate tournament participant, it leads to an embarrassing loss.

Under DAT BlastZone 28 Grand Finals for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate was Plastic Poptart (Lucina) facing Very Calamari (Wolf). At the time the clip starts, Calamari is an advantage, with two shares for Poptarts one. But Poptart quickly builds damage to Calamari and sends him a flight of the table, mainly evening on the fight in one warehouse each.

Unfortunately, the impressive game from the Poptart asks for one of Super Smash Bros. Player's friends to get out of the audience and squeeze him. He tries to brush it off, but ends up jumping off the stage and adopting a downward attack that ends up giving the Calamari winner. It's an embarrassing moment for both Poptart and his friend, who are clearly apologetic in the clip.

We've seen tournament clips where one of the participants celebrates prematurely and ends up losing, but this is the first time we've ever seen anyone losing because a friend celebrated prematurely. Poptart was distracted and did not understand what he was doing at that time.

The good news is that Serious Calamari allowed Plastic Poptart to play with each player in 1 store. Since none of the games had yet damaged the other, it was easy to do things fairly and restore the final showdown. And as it turns out, Poptart was able to win that round, continue to win the winning console's battle, and defeat Serious Calamari again in the loser bracket. It is impressive that Poptart was able to recover from the incident and then win a few more games, but props are due to Calamari too, who could easily have taken the round win.

Super Smash Bros. Ultimate is available now for the Nintendo Switch.
