While Microsoft’s focus has long shifted from exclusive consoles, and the generational change left it in a tougher place than usual, Xbox One still had some good games in 2020. Silicone’s choice of Xbox One Game of the Year 2020 gave us a lot to play and enjoy. On our choices!
These prices represent consensus for Siliconera employees. For more of this year’s award selection, check out our Game of the Year 2020 archive.
Winner: Tony Hawks Pro Skater 1
As we got older all the time in 2020, parks and skaters rebuilt Tony Hawks Pro Skater 1 + 2 gave us a precious respite. It’s not easy to redo this game – several attempts over the years have proven it – so the success here feels extra sweet for the siege THPS fans. We want this success to lead to a new original title, but we are afraid that we will start the cycle of disappointment again. Instead, we just want to like this one!
Ori and Wisps will
How do you follow up on such a beautiful, polished platform player? We will! As it turns out, you can only do another one of them! It’s clear that the team at Moon Studios learned a lot while developing the first game, and the second shows a new level of consistency and flow as a result. Whether it’s the original release or the well – designed Switch port, whether you’re playing Oriyou want to feel good.
Yakuza: Som a dragon
Even on the older generation consoles, Yakuza: Som a dragon gives a lot of charm and value. Sure, the loads are longer! Yes, you will cope with some lower frame rates and reduced textures! But the value of Like a dragon remains. It’s a new, fresh one Yakuza, and you should play it however you can.
