Samsung has introduced a portable X-series NVMe SSD with support for Thunderbolt 3. The new Samsung Portable SSD X5 with 40GB bandwidth can hit speeds of 2,800 MB / s, multiple times faster than SATA-based portable SSDs. The portable SSD X5 costs $ 399.99 for the 500GB model, $ 699.99 for the 1TB model, and $ 1,399.99 for the 2TB premium version. It comes from September 3rd.
But since this is especially a Thunderbolt 3 drive, laptops like only support USB will not be compatible. You will definitely need a newer, high-end machine to use X5 and take advantage of what it can do.
SSD is intended to handle 4K video editing, real-time 3D rendering and RAW files. You can transfer files up to 2,300 MB / s, which means that a 20 GB file can be moved in just 12 seconds.
The metallic impact-resistant frame should be able to take a drop of up to two meters. It has a glossy appearance, but includes a sliding bottom mattress to prevent accidents. Samsung supports the drive with a three-year limited warranty. At 4.7 inches high, 2.4 inches wide and 0.8 inches thick, it's a bit smaller (though thicker) than most flagship smartphones.
