Only yesterday, Samsung China made a strange announcement that would have shocked and perhaps excited anyone interested in streetwear by working with the NY-based uber-cool skate brand Supreme. The problem was that this was not really Supreme at all. Indeed, it was a group called Supreme Italia who found a copyright lawsuit to register the trademark in Italy.
Two representatives came on stage during the Samsung Galaxy A8 announcement to make bold demands to open a flagship in Beijing. Of course, this is not Supreme NYC that has exclusive drops and where fans trade hundreds, sometimes thousands of dollars, just to be among the only ones who have Supreme logo-laden clothes.
Supreme NYC has come out and quickly slammed this Collaborative Comment:
"Supreme does not work with Samsung, opens a flagship in Beijing or participates in a Mercedes-Benz runway show. These statements are blatantly fake and propagated by a fake organization . "
This is a huge blow to hypebeasts across the planet, as this Samsung x Supreme collab is now just a shame. Samsung China Digital Marketing has Leo Lau released a statement on its official Weibo account after tough criticism from Supreme NYC and fans globally to clarify this partnership.
"We cooperate with Supreme Italia, not Supreme NYC," Lau said via translation. "Supreme NYC has no sales and market approval in China, but Supreme Italia has achieved product sales and market authorizations in the Asia Pacific (except Japan)."
But since he released these comments, Samsung China has come forward to respond officially to the strong criticism and backlash from all sides.
Samsung Electronics has recently announced that we will cooperate with Supreme Italia in China at the launch of the Galaxy A8s. We are currently reviewing this collaboration and we are sorry for the inconvenience.
Maybe we will never see an official Supreme collaboration with a smartphone brand, but if we do, Samsung is unlikely to come soon after this event. This whole episode has put some moisture on the entire Samsung Galaxy A8s launch, which appears to be a solid device.
