Just a few months after Apple trolled to no longer have a charger with the iPhone, two competitors are now doing exactly the same thing.
Xiaomi CEO Lei Jun confirmed that the Mi 11 will arrive without a charger, and Samsung deleted a Facebook post this weekend that mocked Apple’s move, which may indicate that the Galaxy S21 will not have anything either when it falls in January.
When Apple announced the iPhone 12 and all future releases were to be shipped without chargers, Samsung and Chinese smartphone maker Xiaomi ran the opportunity to make fun of the Cupertino company.
Samsung posted a picture of a Galaxy charger, with the caption “included with the Galaxy.”
A day later, Xiaomi tweeted a video promoting the Mi 10T Pro, showing an unpacked person with the caption, ‘Don’t worry, we did not leave anything out of the box.’

In October, after Apple announced that iPhones would no longer come with chargers, Samsung posted this message on Facebook. This is since it has been deleted, which leads some to speculate that a charger will not be included in the upcoming Galaxy S21
Lei unveiled the M11 this weekend and stated that the ‘light and thin’ packaging was because the company had decided to stop including a charger.
Like Apple, he said the decision was “in response to the conversation about technology and environmental protection.”
“Today, everyone has many available chargers, which is a burden for both you and the environment,” said Lei.
“We are well aware that this decision may not be understood or even appealed. Is there a better solution between industry practice and environmental protection? ‘
Chinese smartphone maker Xiaomi roasted Apple a day after the charger was announced. Less than four months later, Xiaomi CEO Lei Jun confirmed that the Mi 11 will also arrive without one
Apple unveiled the new iPhone 12 during a live event on October 13, revealing that the $ 799 smartphone would not come with a charger and EarPods, just a Lightning to USB-C charging cable.
Assuming users did not already have them, this accessory costs an additional $ 90.
Or they can pay $ 39 for a MagSafe charger and $ 49.99 for Beats Flex wireless earphones instead.
Lisa Jackson, Apple’s VP of Environment, Politics and Social Initiatives, said during the event: ‘Customers already have over 700 million lightning headphones, and many customers have moved to a wireless experience.’
Apple no longer announced the inclusion of a charger, and EarPods with iPhones would reduce over 2.2 million tons of carbon emissions a year and limit rare earth mining.
‘There are also over 2 billion Apple power adapters out there in the world, and that doesn’t count the billions of third-party adapters.’
‘We are removing these items from the iPhone box, reducing carbon emissions and avoiding mining and the use of precious materials.’
The technology giant claims that the decision to remove the two accessories will reduce more than 2.2 million tonnes of carbon emissions a year.
According to Apple’s estimates, this works as the same as almost 450,000 cars are taken off the road annually
But Apple customers were furious, and many called environmental reasons a lame excuse to hide a desire to charge more for less.
One Twitter user mentioned the fact that Apple eliminated the charger and EarPods to cut down on packaging, but now encourages people to buy two separate devices, in separate packaging.
On Twitter, iPhone users expressed their anger over Apple’s decision to stop sending chargers and EarPods with new phones
‘Pretty soon they’ll take your screen and you have to attach one with a dongle,’ tweeted another. ‘Everyone on the spray track for any new iPhone is a shill. ‘Oh, it’s 5G capable now! There are also many better, cheaper brands. With a charger. ‘
Ben Wood, head of research at CCS Insight, said at the time of the announcement that while it was easy to be skeptical of Apple’s announcement, ‘the environmental benefits cannot be ignored.’
Apple’s CEO is showcasing the new iPhone 12 at a launch event in October
He prophesied objectively ‘Apple’s decision will probably mean that the days of a charger and headphones that come with a new smartphone are over.’
Samsung has not made an official announcement, but it will follow a pattern for the company: According to MacRumor, Samsung knocked on Apple in 2016 to remove the headphone jack from iPhone 7, but then immediately release the Galaxy A8 2018 without headphones. jacks.
