Crypto is one of the least popular choices in Apex Legends, but devs at Respawn have confirmed that they are looking at changes to make Surveillance Expert more of a hit with gamers.
Everyone has their own favorite Legend in Apex, but there is no denying that some are simply not that popular. Crypto is one of these, as he is currently 15th in season 9 picking awards, and comes just ahead of Wattson and Rampart.
So when John ‘JayBiebs’ Larson, Associate Live Balance Designer at Respawn Entertainment, appeared in the latest episode of the Apex Uncut podcast, the hosts took the opportunity to ask him about any changes coming.
When asked what he thinks of Crypto’s place in Apex right now, John acknowledged the low picking rate, but also claimed that being a less popular legend is not necessarily a bad thing, since he meets a niche goal.
“I think Crypto, more than many characters, we’re pretty okay with him being a niche, outside of meta-picking,” he said, “because many of us in a fast-paced FPS shooter are just stupid lizard-brain people who like to “Crypto is too cerebral for my liking.”
However, players who run Crypto will soon have to get used to some changes. John confirmed that Respawn is “actively working on” ways to make him more popular with Apex Legends players, focusing on Surveillance Drone.
The course starts at 1:18:00
“When I consider how I can make him a little sexier, I think streamlining the flow between Crypto mode and drone mode, and perhaps distributing the power in a healthier way so it is not as binary, would be a great way to approach that on, “he explained.
“It’s something to keep in mind, and it’s something we’re definitely working on.”
