Nvidia announced this morning All GeForce RTX 30 Series graphics cards are now compatible with Resizable BAR. Whether you have an RTX 3090 or an RTX 3060 Ti, you can get some extra frames out of your favorite game.
The company has worked with Intel to get the GPUs to talk directly to Intel’s processors, which cuts out the transmission of information to DRAM and speeds up the communication process. This is what makes the small frame rate possible. It’s also a good time to announce the expansion of Resizable BAR; Intel officially launched its 11th generation desktop processors today, and combined with the new Adaptive Boost Technology and Nvidia’s other AI framework enhancing technology, DLSS, there are three ways to get more performance out of your hardware.
According to Nvidia, users can expect an increase of 5.9% fps Cyberpunk 2077, an increase of 7.2% Forza Horizon 4, and up to 11.9% boost in other games with a resolution of 1440p on ultra. However, based on our previous testing with AMD’s same feature (called Smart Access Memory), the feature is game-based, so it ‘s potential users will not see a boost in every game they own. Nvidia says that Resizable BAR supports only 17 games in total as of today, including the two mentioned above.
Resizable BAR is compatible with Intel 400- and 500-series chipset, as well as AMD 400- (with Zen 3 support) and 500-series chipset. As far as processors go, Nvidia’s new feature supports Intel 10th and 11th generation processors and AMD 5000 series processors. Asus, ASRock, Colorful, EVGA, Gigabyte and MSI motherboards support Resizable BAR.
Aside from making sure you have the compatible hardware, you also need to update your motherboard BIOS and GeForce GPU to the latest firmware and driver versions. RTX 3060 eggs already has the latest version, but for everyone else the driver update you need depends on the type of card you have. If you have a Founders Edition of RTX 3090, 3080, 3070 or 3060 Ti, you need get your VBIOS update from Nvidia. For those who have partner cards, you can find the update on the company’s website.
To enable Resizable BAR, load into the PC’s BIOS at startup, click Advanced settings > PCI subsystem settings > activate Over 4G decoding then activate Re-Size Bar Support. These names must be the same for all motherboard manufacturerss, but double check your manual just in case.
Nvidia enabled Resizable BAR on the RTX 3060 GPU last month. We have been waiting for the company to activate the function on the rest of the graphics cards to start our comparison testing. Nwhat it has, we can not wait to dig in.
