In an interview with PlayStation Official Magazine in March 2021, quoted by Wccftech, producer Peter Fabiano confirmed that Resident Evil: Village draws heavily on Resident Evil 4, one of the most critically acclaimed games in the entire series. He has also released a few hints about Lady Dimitrescu and her daughters, as well as building up some high expectations for the next mainline Resident Evil game.
“You will notice that we took a lot of inspiration from Resident Evil 4,” Fabiano explained. “The team has put a lot of effort into creating a truly authentic feel. There are many surprises that will keep you on your toes. Players will find a balance between combat, exploration and puzzle solving.”
On a superficial level, there are quite a few obvious parallels between Resident Evil 4 and Village, from the European village village setting to the kidnapping of a cartoonist’s daughter as the central plot. It will be interesting to see how much further the Resident Evil 4 inspiration goes beyond these plot similarities.
As one might expect after Lady Dimitrescu became a fan-favorite character, the interview also discusses the vampire-like antagonist and her supernatural daughters. “Dimitrescu and her three daughters are raking in what you would expect from vampire doctrine,” Fabiano explained. “We are not saying that is what they are, but there is certainly something that feels supernatural about what is happening.”
“We do not want to ruin too much of history,” he added. “But what I can say is that the creatures all fit into the context of Resident Evil’s world. We can assure you that Resident Evil Village takes into account the general world and history of the series.”
The producer also said that the concept for Village sprang up around the end of the development for Resident Evil 7: Biohazard. “The team was quite attached to Ethan as a character, so we knew we wanted to continue the arc of the story,” he explained. “We wanted to keep getting the players to experience the game through the eyes of the main character Ethan Winters. This really helped keep our vision on target. And since we constantly share information across the Resident Evil team, it really helped. inform us to make what we consider the best survival horror game to date. “
Resident Evil Village will release on May 7 for PC, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X / S.
