Id Software game director Tim Willits likes to say "you can run something" in Rage 2, so when we talk to QuakeCon, I ask him that Mechen is launched by a hostile faction manager in the game trailer.
"Oh yes, yes," says Willits. "That guy is amazing."
"Is there anything I can drive too?" I ask. "Can I defeat him and jump in his mech?"
"It's funny that you said it!" he says. "Because we talked about it. And some said," You know a journalist will ask you if [players] can drive it "and I said" No one will ask us! "It does not have wheels." Someone will ask you. "
I guess someone is me, but Willits will still not answer me. "We've talked about it," says Willits. "But that's all I'll say. We've talked about it."
I get a few clear answers. First, Rage 2 will not support modding out of the gate, but it does not mean it never will. "You know that on ID software, we are big in opposition, so we know it's important, we have just not figured out that roadmap yet," says Willits.
And after the revelation as Doom Eternal will offer an invasion mode where player-controlled demons can enter another player's single player campaign, I asked if there were similar plans for multiplayer features that co-op in Rage 2. But it will remain a single player-only game, says Willits.
"Clearly, everyone always discusses it," says Willits, "but looking at what we want to do and what we want to achieve and what we offer and with the emerging play and the open world aspect of it and our plans after launch, we felt that we are making a good offer. "
Despite lack of proper multiplayer, Rage 2 will have" social components "designed to" connect "players, told Willits Eurogamer yesterday, although he did not know how would work in the game.
As far as everyone else, vehicles we know, can you drive, I ask if we will do more than just jump in and drive them, but collect and keep them too. [1
I ask if this reward is something like a garage to keep the stolen vehicles inside.
"Well, we will see."
"You can not talk about it? »
« Yes. We have some things . But we will incentivize you, yes. "
Here's what we've learned: maybe we can drive mech (they talk about it), something happens when you get into a car, against support is a opportunity, but not at launch, and Rage 2 will definitely be singleplayer-only (but with some kind of social element). For all else we know, check out the QuakeCon movie (built above) and our ] Rage 2-hub .
