Qualcomm (QCOM) debuts in the smartphone market with ASUS Tie-Up

At a time when the broader technology sector is rolling under acute global chip shortages, Qualcomm Incorporated QCOM has taken the world by storm by crashing into the smartphone market with one of its flagship chips. The investment has become possible with a strategic affiliation with Taiwan-based manufacturers of telecommunications equipment ASUS, and is an ode to the 1.6 million strong community of Snapdragon Insiders.

Snapdragon Insiders is a community of technology enthusiasts who enjoy the privilege of being the first among others to celebrate, engage and experience the latest of the Snapdragon offerings. They also have access to small group interactions with content creators and Qualcomm experts for a first-hand experience of technological innovation.

Called the Snapdragon Smartphone for Insiders (EXP21

), the smartphone is co-designed and manufactured by ASUS. It runs on Snapdragon 888 processor and is equipped with an AMOLED screen with Full HD + resolution and Corning Incorporated‘s GLW Victus gorilla glass – one of the toughest anti-scratch goggles available on the market that protects devices when they fall. Although the Snapdragon 888 Plus is the latest SoC (System-on-Chip) from the Qualcomm stable, it is not used in this advanced device, as ASUS allegedly started the system design process a few months ago when the chip was not yet launched. .

Based on the design of the ROG Phone 5, ASUS ‘latest flagship smartphone, the device features a 24MP front camera and a 64MP + 12MP + 8MP rear triple camera setup with Sony Group Corporation SONY sensors for superior image and video quality. Despite such power-packed customer-facing features, the main purpose of this smartphone is reportedly to showcase the latest Qualcomm technologies, including Snapdragon 888 processor, Quick Charge 5.0, Qualcomm aptX Adaptive and Snapdragon Sound, and Qualcomm Game Quick Touch.

Qualcomm Quick Charge 5 is reportedly the world’s fastest commercial charging solution that fully charges a phone in less than 15 minutes. AptX Adaptive and Snapdragon Sound technology help synchronize the audio experience with the action on the screen by delivering ultra-low latency of just 89 milliseconds, so there is no delay between the phone and the earbuds. Game Quick Touch technology provides faster on-screen response and lower latency by increasing touch-to-screen speed by up to 20%.

Qualcomm is reportedly the only chipset provider with 5G system-level solutions spanning both sub-6 and millimeter wavebands and one of the largest RF (radio frequency) providers with design wins across all premium tier smartphone customers. It is one of the largest manufacturers of wireless chipset based on baseband technology. The company focuses on retaining leadership in 5G, chipset market and mobile connectivity with more technological achievements and innovative product launches. The chip maker is likely to help users experience the seamless transition to super-fast 5G networks, delivering low-power, multi-gigantic, multi-gigabyte connectivity with outstanding range and class security. This is likely to offer the flexibility and scalability required for broad and fast 5G adoption through accelerated commercialization of OEMs.

For 2021, 5G handsets are expected to grow at 150% year-on-year growth in the midpoint of around 450-550 units. With more than 700 5G designs announced or in the development phase, the company is well positioned to take advantage of solid 5G traction with greater visibility to achieve its long-term revenue goals.

The share has increased 54.8% over the past year compared to the industry’s growth of 51.2%.
