Due to an error, Slack for Android card may have logged your passwords as plain text, which means you should probably change your password.
As reported by Android Police (h / h The Verge), has sent an email to someone using Slack for Android, requesting that you reset your password as soon as possible. According to the email, Slack developers made a mistake that caused your Slack password to be included – unencrypted – with the app’s logs.
This issue, introduced on December 21, 2020, was not detected and resolved until January 21, 2021. During this 31-day period, it is possible that Slack for Android may have revealed your password in the logs. If your account was affected by this issue, you should also have received the email from Slack requesting a password reset.
That said, if you use Slack for Android on a regular basis, especially during the affected period, it may be safer to just change your password anyway. In addition, you will clear the storage of Slack for Android so that any potentially password-containing logs are no longer on your phone.
How to change your Slack password and delete the logs

- Open Slack on your desktop or web
First you need to open Slack on your desktop or laptop, either through a native Windows / macOS / Linux app or the universal web app.
It is at least possible to sign in to Slack’s web app from Chrome for Android, using the “Desktop site” switch, but the experience will be difficult and not touch-friendly.
- Go to account settings
Then click on your profile picture at the top right of the app and click “View profileIn the drop-down menu. In the panel that opens, you should see a button with three dots, marked “More”. Click on it, and then click on “Account settings. ”
- Change or reset your password
Now you should see a headline marked “Password. ” Click on “expandButton to the right of it.
Here you can either change the login information directly by entering your previous password and a new one, or you can send yourself an email if you have lost your password.
- Repeat for each work area
In particular, since each Slack workspace uses its own login information, you will repeat this process change process for each workspace of which you are a part.
- Change any overlapping passwords
In addition, as there is a chance that your Slack passwords could have been detected, you may want to change these passwords, if you use any of them on another website or app.
- Find Slack in the Settings app
Since your password was stored in the logs of the Slack app, you need to remove these logs manually. First you will find Slack in the phone’s Settings app. If your Settings app offers search, you can only search for “Slack”. Otherwise, you need to find Slack in the list of installed apps.
- Remove the data
Then you have to press “Storage” or “Storage and cache” to manage the data of the Slack app. Press “Clear storage” to clear the phone of all data related to Slack for Android including password-containing logs.
Note that this will log you out of each Slack workspace. You will need to sign in again to ensure that your alerts are still received correctly.
