He cites the pandemic and its effects on the semiconductor market as a major factor in causing the PS5 shortage. However, he notes that the company is working “as hard as possible”
Meanwhile, one of the best ways to find out when your PS5 warehouse is hitting online retailers is by following your Sony Twitter account. We also recommend following Twitter accounts such as @ PS5StockAlerts, @GYXdeals, @ PS5Drop and @ Wario64, who are often the first to have the latest updates on availability. How to buy PS5: Important tips
Prepare: Make sure you have all the right debit card details and two-factor authentication available and available when you find a PS5 ready to buy. Devices can go so fast that if you joke around trying to find your credit card, you may miss the chance to secure a PS5 order.
Choose a dealerAs you can see from the list above, there are many retailers to choose from, which can actually make the whole process of buying a PS5 a bit complicated. We suggest you choose a couple of major retailers such as Walmart and Amazon, and keep an eye on the PS5 landing pages.
Sign up for stock alerts: Many retailers offer to notify you when they have PS5 stock. We suggest that you sign up for the services of the resellers who offer them.
Find the right product page: This may sound obvious, but make sure you are on the actual purchase page for PS5 or PS5 Digital Edition. If you are on a landing page, you may miss the moment new stocks arrive.
Log in to dealers: Make sure you log in to resellers you may already have an account with. This will make things much faster when you buy a PS5 if you see one for sale. And speed is the essence today.
Keep refreshing and do not give up: It can be a bit demoralizing to try to find PS5 shares when everywhere looks sold out. But regularly update product pages to see what comes up; you may be lucky. And keep checking back here for any PS5 stock updates.
You can also make it a habit to check out Slickdeals, the online collection of deals that range from home appliances to game consoles like the PS5. The site has some specific forum threads for everything PS5 that users keep updating. If you follow the thread, you can go to the last page and stay refreshed to follow the latest news.
It is also a good idea to check out some of the subscription-based wholesale retailers such as Sam’s Club, BJ’s Wholesale Club and Costco. You need a paid membership to shop at these retailers, but that means reduced competition to catch a device there. You may have to pay extra for a package, but it’s worth checking out these places anyway. At the moment, there are no online listings for these retailers to check, but it may be worth going to every brick store to try your luck at this point.
It has been a rather difficult process during this console generation to lock in some kind of next generation purchase. But as we approach the holiday season, it is highly likely that there will be more PS5s available for purchase at some point when Sony catches up with those who want to buy PS5s.
PS5 inventory: Accounts to be tracked
Where to buy PS5: Avoid PS5 scalps
Unfortunately, one of the main reasons for the lack of PS5 consoles is due to scalps. These opportunistic people have used robots to scan dealers for PS5 stocks when it becomes available and buy as many consoles as possible at once.
When they have the highly desirable console, they will then sell them for exorbitant prices, often for thousands of dollars. Business Insider reported that one retailer managed to get hold of 200 PS5 consoles and managed to sell them for more than $ 40,000.
While this is not illegal, it is not exactly the most morally healthy thing to do. But at least it’s not as bad as someone who has pretended to sell PS5 consoles on eBay by simply posting pictures of the console and tricking people into bidding on them when no PS5 was offered.
It may seem absurd to buy a PS5 for over $ 1000, especially since the launch lineup is not very deep. But with the coronavirus pandemic seeing more people stay at home, some PlayStation fans are desperate to get a new console to keep them entertained.
We recommend that you avoid buying from such retailers, counterfeit or otherwise. At $ 499, the PS5 is still a fairly expensive console, and it does not currently have a large library of games. So if you can wait until later this year, you’ll probably have many more PS5 games to choose from, and Sony should have more consoles available.
