The PlayStation Direct queue is now over. Sony’s official store started the queue at 15:30 PT / 18:30 ET and ran out of storage at 15:58 PT / 18:58 ET. Sony left a message to users still waiting in line, saying “We are constantly working to make more PS5 consoles available in the future,” but it did not provide a timeline or other information. PlayStation Direct notes that it still has PS5 accessories and games, but since they have not been as difficult to find as the console, it is best that you leave the queue and wait for your next opportunity to catch a PS5.
In a recent earnings report, Sony confirmed that it sold 4.5 million PS5 consoles from October to December. The company acknowledged the current PS5 shortage, but promised to “do everything in our power”
Despite these facts, you are not entirely lucky on the PS5 front. While it will continue to be difficult to buy the PS5 in the coming months, retailers still offer occasional online inventory, and PlayStation Direct also occasionally opens the queue for the PS5. Usually no advance notice is given, so the PS5 game is about keeping an eye on Twitter (and of course stories like this) for news on the latest additions. There are many accounts that twitter as soon as the PS5 is seen in stock. We have recently seen several inventories from major retailers such as Best Buy, Walmart and GameStop, including the largest inventory we have seen since Black Friday in late January. Last week, Walmart offered both the PS5 and PS5 Digital in a series of consecutive refills, although each was sold out in no time. And this week, GameStop has refurbished PS5 bundles, which presumably also sold out quickly. In general, you will have more luck with stocks that are not announced in advance, but of course they are also harder to keep up with.
We will continue to update this guide when PS5 devices are sold – just be aware that if you want one, you must be quick and potentially open to buying a pack of games and accessories that you may or may not want. If you want to buy a PS5 relatively soon, these are the kind of concessions you need to make. Third-party sellers like StockX are also options, though we recommend waiting to buy the PS5 for MSRP (and not hundreds above the list price).
Where to buy PS5
PS5 availability on PlayStation Direct
PlayStation Direct regularly opens a queue for buyers to buy the PS5 (and everything else on the first-party page), but it is often over an hour’s wait and unclear whether the PS5 is available. It is still worth checking PS Direct often, as it is the only store that still releases PS5 on a slightly regular basis. However, the queues seem to be somewhat random.
Note that finding a queue on PS Direct does not necessarily mean that PS5 is in stock; it simply indicates high traffic to the store. It never hurts to jump in and wait if you find the queue and you want to be at your computer for a while, but know that there is no guarantee that it will be in stock when you get through.
PS5 availability on GameStop
GameStop relaunched the PS5 on February 9; However, the PS5 and PS5 Digital Edition are only available in expensive packages. This has been a relatively common occurrence on GameStop.
PS5 availability at Walmart
Walmart had the PS5, along with other next-generation systems, on its website on February 4th. Like other Walmart stores, several systems became available every 10 minutes, giving customers many opportunities to get one, but they sold out ridiculously fast. The inventory was announced about an hour ahead of time, giving aspiring buyers (and retailers) time to prepare.
PS5 availability at Best Buy
Best Buy’s last PS5 recovery was on January 22 – this marked the second day in a row that Best Buy is making PS5 on its website, but it has been quiet ever since. Best Buy did not have any stock on store shelves throughout the holiday season, but the retailer has stated that consoles will be available in stores in 2021. We suggest that you contact your local Best Buy store in case of availability.
PS5 availability on Target
Target’s last inventory was 2 February. Both PS5 and PS5 Digital were available, but only for in-store pickup. We still suggest calling local stores for availability. This is just the second PS5 rebuild we’ve seen on Target since launch.
PS5 availability at Amazon
Amazon has been the least trusted retailer when it comes to PS5 inventory – we’ve hardly seen the next generation console in stock there since launch. The latest rebuild of the Amazon PS5 took place on January 21st. We only saw the $ 500 disk drive version in stock, and it was gone in no time.
Where can I buy PS5 accessories
Pulse 3D wireless headsets have been the most difficult PS5 accessory to find in stock, and they were the first accessory to sell out at major retailers. Inventories have appeared from time to time in recent weeks, although it is still not an item you can buy reliably at any time. However, there are still a number of great headsets you can buy to go along with your new PS5. Our personal favorite is the Razer BlackShark V2 Pro wireless headset; Other great options include the SteelSeries Arctis 1 and Astro A50. Some of your existing PS4 headphones should also work.
Other official PS5 accessories, such as the media remote control and DualSense charging station, are also proving to be popular, and remain in stock with occasional refills.

Where to buy PS5’s biggest games
Quite a few PS5 games are available now, including launch titles such as Spider-Man: Miles Morales and Demon’s Souls. Keep in mind that many PS4 games have free next-generation upgrades that have been discounted since launch, making them a better deal than buying the PS5 versions directly.
