PS4 Fits 80M Devices Sold As Switch Approaches 20M | News and opinions

Both consoles sell incredibly well, with PS4 being about to transfer PS3 for lifetime sales and Switch will soon sell more devices than GameCube. Meanwhile, Microsoft does not like to talk about hardware sales anymore.

The best-selling game console at any time is PlayStation 2 with 155 million units sold all over life, and it seems very unlikely that total will be hit. But this week, both Sony and Nintendo have a reason to be happy as their current reconsider sells extremely well.

First, Sony, as IGN reports, has just released its Q1

FY2018 figures revealing another 3.2 million PS4 consoles have been sold between April 1st and June 30th. It takes up the entire lifetime sales up to 82.2 million. By comparison, PS3's total lifetime sales of 83.8 million, which means that PS4 can easily surpass it. The next goal after it is the original PlayStation, which managed 102.49 million units.

For Nintendo, Switch has only been on the market for 16 months and yet sales are within a range of 20 million. As <a href= Eurogamer reports, Switch Total now sets 19.67 million after selling 1.88 million last year, which means that Nintendo will soon say that Switch has sold more than GameCube's life sales of 21.74 million. The goal for it is Nintendo 64, but it will take a while to beat when it sold 32.93 million units.

We expect the next generation of Sony and Microsoft hardware to roll out in 2019/20. If Sony pays 2 million PS4 per quarter, it should be in the distance by the distance to the PlayStation devices in total. With a couple of holiday seasons in the meantime, it must hit before the players focus on PlayStation 5.

With the switch, there is no replacement as the hybrid console is so young. Before we talk about Switch 2, Switch sales figures should have exceeded SNES (49.1 million), NES (61.91 million), and even Game Boy Advance (81.51 million).

Microsoft no longer shares sales figures, but for years we have known that it is far behind the PS4 and will not pick up before the generation is over. There is still a big deal behind the Xbox One, but attention must definitely turn to what's next, especially as we expect two completely different Xbox-branded machines by 2020.
