PlayStation Network Down on PS4 and PS5 [UPDATE]

UPDATE: PlayStation Network services are backed up and should work as intended. If you still have problems, you can check this page here.

ORIGINAL: PlayStation Network, also known as PSN, is down on PS4 and PS5. At the time of writing this, the servers went down a few minutes ago and right now all PlayStation platforms are affected, as are all other related services like PlayStation Plus. The news was first shared by the official Fortnite Status Twitter Account After players started reporting in droves, they could not access the free-to-play Battle Royale game on PlayStation platforms. Since then, the official PlayStation Status website has confirmed that all aspects of PSN, carrying PlayStation Video, are either down or having issues.

At the moment of publication, it is unclear which regions are affected. Furthermore, it is unclear how long PlayStation players will expect the services to be down. That said, as long as the services are down, PlayStation players will be limited to offline and single-player games.

Not only is it unclear where the outbreak is and when a solution will be rolled out, but it is unclear what is causing the problem in the first place. Usually, when PSN and other similar services like Xbox Live Gold crash, it is due to server congestion, which means that servers usually experience problems on the weekends when everyone is playing.

At the time of publication, the details of the interruption are scarce. That said, we’ll be sure to update the story as new and official details come in. Sony is usually very quick to fix power outages like this, but there have been cases where PSN has gone down and stayed down for several hours. In other words, be prepared to wait until possibly tomorrow to access PlayStation Network.
