In the wake of a fatal mass shooting at a Madden NFL esport tournament in Jacksonville, Florida, many people are obviously concerned about the safety of upcoming game events, especially PAX West, which is later this week. PAX issued a statement on security at PAX West-calling the security of participants, exhibitors and employees "crucial."
After mass shooting in Florida yesterday, where two Madden esport players were killed by a shooter, users on Twitter -Presented by video game companies as Square Enix and Microsoft expressed concern for safety at PAX West. Essentially, whether it will be added to PAX West as metal detectors, it is something that users on Twitter noted, usually not present in PAX West.
We traveled to PAX with questions about security measures at PAX West and have received the following statement from the PAX team. We have included the statement in full below:
"First of all, our hearts go out to all those affected by the terrible, meaningless acts of violence in Jacksonville, Florida on Sunday. The whole game environment is affected by this tragedy."
"The security of our participants, exhibitors and employees is crucial for ReedPOP and Penny Arcade. As PAX has grown in popularity, we have responded with the addition of increased private security, law enforcement and other personnel, each of which is on-site at all times during our events.
"As a rule, we do not publicly disclose or discuss the details of our security program to maintain effectiveness, but we work closely with the Washington State Convention Center, Private Security, Seattle Police Department and Federal Law Enforcement Authorities to identify risks, assess them and develop our comprehensive security protocols for PAX West. We have extensive proactive measures, which are visible during PAX events and many not. We are always working to improve our security plans and, if necessary, adjust them to ensure that we doing all we can to make PAX West, and all PAX events, a safe and secure environment for society.
"During the fifteen years of PAX events, we have provided a safe and welcoming environment for more than a million participants to come together for their love of play and we ensure that we adhere to the tradition of PAX West 2018. "
While the PAX team did not explicitly announce additional security measures at PAX West, the declaration declares that the security plans are adjusted if necessary. However, there is no word about whether measures like metal detectors, which were present at PAX East after the Boston marathon bombing, will be implemented at PAX West.
Video events respond to social security concerns. Following extensive security issues at E3 in 2017, where the event was open to the public for the first time, E3 event organizers updated security at E3 2018 to include metal detectors, stricter security and stricter rules for reintroduction in the event. It remains to see what adjustments could be made to PAX West.
PAX West takes place August 31 to September 3 in Seattle, Washington.
