While the conference organizers held out hope until the last minute, it turns out that the beginning of June was still a little too early for thousands of players to come down to Boston for PAX East 2021. The live event has now been canceled, replaced with a special PAX Online event . runs July 15-18.

Last year’s PAX East in Boston, held February 27 to March 1, was one of the last major live gaming conventions that took place before covid-19 closed it all, even though exhibitors such as Sony withdrew at the last minute due to health and safety issues. These concerns continue into 2021, and while Penny Arcade and ReedPop are still hopeful for PAX West and PAX Unplugged in September and December, respectively, it’s still too early for a June 3 – 6 PAX East. Fortunately, the organizers did not sell tickets to this year’s PAX East, nor did they sell showrooms, so the cancellation should not cause any major problems.

Instead of PAX East, Penny Arcade and ReedPop do what they did PAX West in September last year, host a massive online event instead. Look for more about these plans soon.
