Panic’s upcoming Playdate handheld costs $ 179, but comes with more games

It’s been a long time since we heard anything about Playdate, Panic’s tiny hand-cranked game handheld, but that’s about to change. On June 8, 2021, the company will debut a 15-minute video show on its YouTube channel that will provide much more information about the device, watch the games that come with it, and how exactly to get one.

Panic, however, announced some bad news; Playdate is now priced at $ 179 instead of the first $ 149. The company says this is largely due to the huge global shortage of electronic parts, partly caused by the pandemic. To compensate for the price difference, however, Panic will include twice as many “Season One” games that come with the device (24 instead of 1

2), and it will have twice as much internal storage (4 GB instead of 2 GB) as well.

According to the company, the Playdate Update video presentation will be a pre-recorded 15-minute presentation that will include an update on pre-order information, a look at the Season One game lineup and “much more.” However, we have been informed that pre-orders will not be live immediately after the video presentation has been sent.

“We have all worked quietly to get all the complex pieces of the Playdate puzzle in place, and finally we are ready to show you what we have been up to,” said Cable Sasser, Panic co. founder, in a press release.
