How’s this for a horror story? You spend hours on farm equipment in your favorite game. You will find some really amazing things, including some legends. Then, for a moment, completely out of the blue, everything is gone. Everything, to the point where your character is basically naked. For some Outriders players, it’s less of a scary nightmare than it’s a very strong reality.
Outriders, last week for every major platform except Switch, is the latest busy cooperative looter shooter. An always online game, Outriders launched to a day of server issues. Some players had trouble logging in; others would be started in the middle of the session. Even those who tried to play solo experienced some turbulence. Friday night, developer People Can Fly took the servers offline completely for a few hours for emergency maintenance. Matchmaking, although relatively more stable now, is still not perfect. Outriders supports crossplay across all platforms, but PC gamers and console gamers are still unable to attach to each other, and even inter-console gamers may encounter occasional hiccups. (Last night I experienced playing two disconnections on PlayStation 5 with a teammate on Xbox Series X.)
It’s not very amazing to see an online game launch with a number of server issues, since that is the norm these days. It is also not so surprising to see a big budget launch with a number of minor bugs. These things tend to get ironed out over time. But a larger shadow rages over Outriders, which is apparently plagued by a sneaky bug that eliminates all your hard-earned equipment, and it’s unclear when a solution might come in.
In recent days, players have has taken to Social Media to share experiences about suddenly losing all the equipment. A prominent working theory suggested that wet wipes only occur when trying to connect with random players, but others have detailed cases where they have lost everything while playing with friends. This morning, a Reddit user posted a collage of dried goods with the headline “This is starting to get really scary.”
The developer is ready. We are still finding out about the best way to be a one-to-one customer support team method (which may be more accurate, but which will take much longer and may not be possible if there are many cases), or if we are in able (as before) to run a lot of one-time restoration events via our backend, ”representatives of Square Enix wrote on the game’s known issues thread on Reddit.
After Outriders demo became widely available on February 25, players quickly found out how to cultivate after legendary weapons. In some cases, these legendary weapons would suddenly disappear from stock without notice. On March 25, people can fly took the game’s servers offline for an hour, a period of maintenance that ended with recovering lost legendary weapons.
It is unclear what the timeline is for fixing the current inventory, if there are any developer-approved solutions, or if anything will be done for troubled players. When reached for comment, Square Enix pointed out Kotaku to the game’s social media channels.
Meanwhile, Square Enix, if you are reading this, had all the game’s legendary weapons in my warehouse before today. Yep. All together. True story. No need to look at it, though: When, or if, a solution comes in, you can just take my word for it and restore everything. Thanks in advance!
