The upcoming OnePlus 9 Pro looks like it will take a big step up in the camera’s hardware efforts with an alleged prototype shown with the Hasselblad brand.
A long-standing complaint about OnePlus devices has undoubtedly been the poor camera performance. This is all despite the inclusion of normally top-level sensors and fairly skilled inmates. A new video courtesy of Dave2D has given us an early closer look at another prototype OnePlus 9 series device with what appears to be the Hasselblad brand on the rear camera setup.
Of course, an always-developed lens partnership is never a guarantee that a camera will match perceived shots. Hasselblad̵
Through the short video, we look at a four-camera setup with the round bumps on the iPhone style that gets the Hasselblad logo and two more lenses. At this stage, it is unclear what the layout consists of, but let’s hope for some big shocks over the OnePlus 8 Pro’s 48-megapixel Sony IMX689.
Earlier rumors suggested that the OnePlus 9 series would potentially come with lenses developed in conjunction with Leica, but it looks like Hasselblad will raise the perception of the upcoming flagship camera’s quality before launch. The camera’s user interface has a “Tilt-Shift” mode that suggests a lens that moves to create distortion-free images that are a signature of this type of photography.
The last smartphone company that worked with Hasselblad was Motorola, with a Moto Z3 add-on that improved the capabilities of the clearly average camera system there. It did not turn out to be a great success, but let’s hope that this combination is more like the Huawei-Leica partnership than the Moto-Hasselblad team-up.
Another notable Dave2D reveal is a curved screen, with a slight difference in the frame shape of the alert slider and the power button. It is not clear why this will be the case, but it is interesting to say the least. Some weird aspects of the prototype include an “About Phone” section with 11GB of RAM, but no processor information. This is likely to prevent further information leakage.
Will this finally give the OnePlus 9 a camera that can compete with the very best in the industry? Let us know what you think about this prospective partnership in the comments section below.
