- The OnePlus 7 and 7T series of phones finally get their first Oxygen OS 11 beta builds.
- The updates were expected to roll out in December, but were delayed due to a data encryption issue.
- The latest Oxygen OS 11 open beta is not the most stable and can cause a number of issues.
After a delay of more than a month, OnePlus is finally launching the long-awaited Android 11 open beta of the OnePlus 7 and 7T lines.
The update comes in the form of Oxygen OS 11 Open Beta 1 for OnePlus 7, 7 Pro, 7T and 7T Pro. However, the transition to Android 11 for these phones is not without challenges, at least for now.
According to the company, the building wipes out all data from the OnePlus 7T devices if you download it from the links provided on the official forum. So you should only download it using the manual method if you are willing to proceed with a complete data erasure of your phones. OTA updates are not affected by this, the company says, but do not forget to back up your data.

There are also some known issues with the open beta for both the OnePlus 7 and 7T series. OnePlus warns that there is a potential risk of increased power consumption and instability. The Gallery app may be slower to load under some conditions, and some images may not be displayed. Bluetooth devices such as earphones, speakers, and so on may not play sound occasionally. And finally, brightness adjustment may be under certain conditions.
Should you upgrade?
It seems that there are many compromises you have to make if you download this latest Oxygen OS 11 beta version. While it will upgrade your phones with things like a new user interface, recently added HEVC codecs, dark mode features and more, it’s probably worth enduring for now and waiting for a more stable build to come along.
If you’re still eager to get the current beta versions of your OnePlus 7 and 7T devices, you should know that they’s only available for unlocked models that are not operators from now on. You need at least 30% battery and at least 3 GB of available storage to install the update.
