NVIDIA this morning released a quick comment revealing the release date for their next GeForce video card, RTX 3060. The mainstream (ish) video card, previously unveiled at CES 2021 with a release date in late February, is now locked for a February 25 launch.th, with prices starting at $ 329.
In a nutshell, the RTX 3060 is the next card in NVIDIA’s Ampere Architecture Consumption graphics card stack. Using the new GA106 GPU – already shipped in RTX 3060 laptops – the RTX 3060 follows the traditional price / performance damage for video card launches, with NVIDIA releasing a cheaper and poorer performing video card for the regular video card market. NVIDIA’s 60-layer cards have long been the company̵

NVIDIA has already published most of the specifications for the card back in January. Including the fact that it offers 28 SMs (3584 CUDA cores) and 12 GB of GDDR6 running on a 192-bit memory bus. As with previous 60-layer cards, the non-power-to-two memory bus does not mean that NVIDIA delivers any strange amount of memory, in this case 12 GB, which is actually more than what comes with the RTX 3080. the only other option which is an anemic-for-2021 6GB, NVIDIA chooses to make sure the card is not for lack of VRAM capacity.
Meanwhile, for better or worse, the RTX 3060 is guaranteed to fly off the shelves quickly. With each graphics card more powerful than a GTX 1050 Ti apparently being switched to mining by Ethereum, desperate gamers will battle with hungry miners for supplies. Even with the 192-bit memory bus, I would be shocked if the RTX 3060 was not profitable, especially with Ethereum reaching record highs. So for anyone thinking of grabbing the card, be best prepared to camp at your favorite retailer or e-tailer on Thursday morning.
Finally, unlike other RTX 30 series cards to date, NVIDIA will not be producing any Founders Edition cards for the RTX 3060 series. So all issued cards will be AIB cards with their own design. And if the tradition holds, do not be surprised if we see that the AIBs dress their cards with premium features and raise prices accordingly.
