Nvidia Introduces GeForce RTX 3080 Ti and 3070 Ti Game GPUs

Another season, another pair of graphics cards you will not find. This time, the power pair Nvidia GeForce RTX 3070 Ti and 3080 Ti Nvidia announced on Computex 2021

. 3080 Ti will be available June 3 from $ 1,199, while 3070 Ti will ship June 10, from $ 599. Do not blink, otherwise you will miss them .

3080 Ti stands out from 3080 with more of everything: more memory (12 GB GDDR6X) and more cores everywhere (80 RT cores, 10 240 CUDA cores, 320 Tensor cores). In fact, while it looks like a big leap RTX 3080, it looks very close to the RTX 3090, including the same hefty 350 watt power take-off. The exception is the amount of memory, since the RTX 3090 has 24 GB.

On the other hand, the RTX 3070 Ti is specified quite closely RTX 3070, with a remarkable difference. It has the same amount of memory, but uses GDDR6X instead of GDDR6, and promises significantly better memory bandwidth.

But despite Nvidia’s introduction of cryptocurrency-optimized cards (its CMP HX) and throttling of the performance of gaming GPUs (now the retronym LHR for low hash rate), things still do not look particularly promising. First, the company said in its recent earnings call that it expects delivery restrictions to continue for at least a few more months, if not longer. For another, the CMP cards are still not available in the United States.

Even when the CMP cards finally become available here, and although Nvidia can meet the demand for them as claimed in the earnings call – they use older production technologies, an older architecture chip and do not need GDDR6 memory, so supply problems do not overlap the game GPUs – that does not mean that the game GPU deficiency will necessarily ease. Miners can use the game GPUs, but players cannot use the mining GPUs, and there is nothing to stop miners from sucking up all available supplies, both CMP and LHR, among other potential problems.

And Nvidia stated quite a bit during a briefing that there will be stock of Founders Edition cards, the only cards that are guaranteed to have uninflated prices, on launch day – but did not mention anything about subsequent days. Also that you mostly have to keep checking. Since supplies will be tight for a while, prices will also remain at scalp high levels. All this sounds like the status quo to me.
